Sourcing designer fabrics at wholesale is about more than finding a beautiful design. It is about clear communication, realistic planning and a partner who understands your business. This guide covers what to prepare and what to ask.
Before you enquire
- Shortlist designs by SKU or reference images.
- Estimate quantities per design and per colour.
- Know your timeline, including when you need samples and when bulk must arrive.
- Share your destination — city and country — so shipping can be planned.
Questions to ask
- What is the minimum order quantity for this design and colour?
- Can the colour, motif scale or embellishment density be adjusted?
- What is the lead time for samples and for bulk?
- What are the confirmed width, composition and care guidance?
- How will the fabric be packed and shipped?
Approve samples before bulk
An approved sample becomes the reference for production. Keep it, label it and refer to it in your purchase order.
Get everything in writing
Quantities, specifications, pricing, payment terms, timelines and shipping should be confirmed in a written quotation or order confirmation.
Buying internationally
International buyers should also confirm shipping method, documentation, duties and who handles customs clearance. Allow extra time for transit and for samples to travel.
Build the relationship
Long-term partnerships make repeat orders smoother. Share feedback on what sold well and plan upcoming seasons early.
